Note: You can use the "Brochure - Picking a Railing System" to help guide you through the options of a new railing system. (Do note that you can either proceed to products page and purchase the parts needed or "request a quote". Requesting a quote is needed mainly if one's deck has unique stairs or unique features.)
1) The first step is to figure out which style of railing you want. Please visit our literature page and review our brochure on picking a railing system. It might also be helpful to use the brochure as a reference if needed. Here at Tacoma Railing we offer 3 options: Cable Railing, Picket Railing, and Glass Railing. |
2) Once you've decided which style of railing you want, then you'll need to pick a top guardrail style. We offer 4 options which are Ellipse Guardrail, Rectangle Guardrail, Round Guardrail, and Square Guardrail. Note that the design/assembly is slightly different "per different styles" of guardrails. For example, Ellipse and Rectangle guardrails are designed to fit over top of the posts giving you a continues top rail; whereas Round and Square Guardrails are designed to set slightly below the post and are in 5 feet increments in-between each post. A cap is then attached to each post for a clean finished look with the Round and Square Guardrails.

3) The next step is to measure the area for the railing needed. Basically, measure each side of the deck (area the railing will be) to find the total linear feet of railing needed to complete your order. Measuring each side of the deck is a good practice to know how much linear feet is needed. Attached below is a pdf which can act as a guide for measuring your deck. |
Also, while measuring the deck; user will want to figure out the number of end posts, corner posts, and intermediate posts they will need for their railing system. We have provided a sample of finding the proper number of posts needed to the right.
